Student Wellbeing Yoga

Calm, accessible early‑intervention sessions for school and college students. Student Wellbeing Yoga offers gentle, regulation‑focused support for young people navigating anxiety, overwhelm, exam stress, masking fatigue, or the everyday pressures of school life.

Sessions are invitational, trauma‑informed, and shaped around student capacity. They provide grounding, steadiness, and practical tools students can use in school, at home, and during challenging moments.

Who’s delivering this?

Sessions are led by me, Cerian Smith. I’m a qualified teacher with over fifteen years’ teaching experience across Key Stages 2-5, over five years’ experience working with neurodiverse young people from 11 to 23, and I’m also a yoga therapist trained to Level 6 (600-hour Professional Diploma, Minded Institute). I’m fully insured, first-aid qualified, and registered with the CNHC (CNHC08541).

I’ve taught wellbeing yoga in schools in Bristol and Gloucestershire, and for Gloucestershire Libraries. I currently offer 1:1 yoga therapy as part of the wellbeing support in a Gloucester secondary school. I know how schools run: sessions fit around your timetable, safeguarding procedures and pastoral pathways. I’m on the DBS update service and am fully up to date with statutory safeguarding training and KCSIE updates.

What Student Wellbeing Yoga is

Student Wellbeing Yoga is an early‑intervention wellbeing offer, designed to support young people before difficulties escalate. It sits comfortably within pastoral, wellbeing, and inclusion frameworks, and complements existing school provision.

The focus is on:

  • grounding
  • nervous‑system regulation
  • breath awareness
  • gentle movement
  • emotional steadiness
  • building confidence in using supportive tools

It is not a PE activity or a yoga club — it is a specialist wellbeing intervention.

Who it’s for

Student Wellbeing Yoga is suitable for:

  • students experiencing anxiety or overwhelm
  • students who freeze, shut down, or become dysregulated under pressure
  • students with varied nervous‑system needs who struggle with focus, steadiness, or energy
  • students navigating masking fatigue or burnout
  • students who find transitions, exams, or busy school environments challenging
  • small groups needing targeted wellbeing support

It works well as a universal offer, a targeted intervention, or part of a wider early‑intervention pathway.

How it supports learning

When students are overwhelmed or outside their window of tolerance, learning becomes harder. Sessions help young people build practical regulation skills that support concentration, exam readiness, classroom engagement, transitions through the school day, and readiness to learn. The aim isn’t to teach poses. It’s to help students feel safe, settled and better equipped for school life.

What a session looks like

Each session follows a predictable arc: arrival and grounding, gentle movement, breath awareness, simple regulation tools, and a closing rest. The content shifts with who is in the room.

How schools use it
  • As a small-group intervention or targeted support pathway
  • As a lunchtime or after-school wellbeing group
  • As an exam-season intervention alongside Exam Calm
  • As part of a whole-school wellbeing pathway alongside Staff Wellbeing Yoga

Student Wellbeing Yoga supports key school priorities:
  • early intervention
  • emotional regulation
  • resilience
  • attendance
  • ND-affirming practice
  • exam‑season support
  • inclusion and pastoral care
  • reducing overwhelm and shutdown
  • supporting students before CAMHS thresholds
